Tools I use
Hardware
- Dell UltraSharp U2715H: My day-to-day monitor for work. It’s definitely no retina display, but it does the trick.
- 14” Macbook Pro M1 (2021): Such a great machine, and quiet too!
- Apple Magic Keyboard
- iPhone 14 Pro
- Kensington SlimBlade Pro Trackball: This is a recent addition! I have a long history of using a pen tablet, Wacom’s dwindling quality over time and some other gripes I have made me look at trackballs for a change. I think I like it!
- USB3 Switch
: for switching most of my peripherals between my laptop and desktop PC A gaming PC. Nothing top of the line - Synology DS218j: Our Network Storage for backups, archival and the storage of my Sound Libraries. Select folders are backed up to Backblaze B2 for safety
- Cameras: Fujifilm X100T and an old Canon 60D with a
EF17-40mm f/4L
lens (not really used much at the moment)
Audio
- Bose QuietComfort 35 S2: These have lasted me surprisingly long. I use them for meetings, when playing music in private, or while travelling.
Sony MDR-7506 : These studio headphones I use for most of my Sound Design and music work because they are quite neutral. They are very common amongst audio people.- Steinberg UR44c: My Audio Interface. I got the 4-port version because I wanted to be able to plug in a microphone and a stereo guitar setup (for ambient music) at the same time.
- Yamaha HS0M: My speakers for audio Work. I think I’ve owned these for more than 10 years now!
- Arturia Minilab 3
: My MIDI controller
Software
Development
- Visual Studio Code with the Noctis Viola theme and Jetbrains Mono as the font
- Obsidian as a 2nd brain, note taking, productivity system, and writing
- GitUp
: I typically use git through the command line or the VS Code integration, but sometimes a responsive and user-friendly UX is nicer - 1Password
- iTerm
- Firefox Developer Edition
- Readwise
Other Software
- Darkroom
- Reaper
: My DAW of choice - Home Assistant
- Spotify: I don’t like it, but because of the Cluster Player
I’m still quite tied to their API. Working on it…
