What I'm up to

An overview of stuff that I'm working on, and other stuff that keeps me occupied.

Projects

  • I'm working on building my own online platform specifically for owners of restaurants, cafes, bars, and similar businesses. I have dedicated page for the project.
  • An experiment in making a generative music piece inspired by some of Brian Eno's work (especially his last album and his Bloom app, in collaboration with Peter Chilvers). I've tried similar things like this many times the last 10 years or so, but I never really got this far. I'm building it in the browser with Javascript and Tone.js. Still a work in progress, but theres some output from the application on my SoundCloud profile.
  • A generative visual piece, that takes some basic parameters and generates an infinite, moving picture that slowly evolves.
  • A CSS framework/toolkit called Nebula.css, that generates utility classes for font sizes, colors, background colors and spacing, while having responsiveness in mind. It's a bit of a byproduct of some work I've been doing on my own projects over time. It's basically done, but requires a proper website until I want to release version 1.0. I've been putting that off in favour of other things.

Things I liked a lot recently:

  • Brian Eno's work

The release of Eno's latest album awaked a renewed interest in the man's work in me, which inspired me to look into creating my own generative music and art.

So I've been listening to more of Brian Eno's ambient work, and watching some interviews in which he talks about his process and experiences. I particularly enjoyed his recent interview with Adam Buxton (which touches a large range of topics besides his work) and a video where BBC Click visits Eno's studio (some nice details on his art that is not music).

As someone who's primarily a programmer, seeing his approach to creating art is very encouraging. But that said, It's always lovely to hear him talk about things.

  • Dragon Age: Inquisition

I jumped in this game recently, after not having been able to properly play games like this in a while. It's been marvellous so far. I'm also a big fan of the Mass Effect games, so the newest game has my interest, but that one will have to wait until I finished Inquisition. Hopefully I'll have a gaming setup then that will do the game justice :).

  • The War on Drugs

I discovered their song Red Eyes through a recommendation algorithm a while ago, and the song kept popping up in my head a lot. Thanks to the video below I also discovered the song An Ocean in Between the Waves. I really really enjoy their overall groove and rythm, and even times when I expect I won't be enjoying a song, I'll get totally in to it. Anyway, here's a great live video of them:
